If the works of Jules Sohn as a sculptor are not well documented, we find traces of this interesting character through the catalog of the Exhibition of the French industry in 1844. Indeed, beyond his artistic works, he was granted a patent by Louis-Philippe for the invention of stearic plaster. This process consists of immersing a plaster sculpture in a stearin bath, thus giving the object a strong resistance and an aspect that brings it closer to the colors and polish of marble. He probably opened a workshop at number 2 Place de la Madeleine and collaborated regularly with the sculptor Jean-Pierre Dantan (1800-1869). It is attested that in 1844 Jules Sohn worked for the Bavarian artistic authorities and all the works presented here come from the collection of Maximilian Joseph, Duke in Bavaria (1808-1888).
