Iron tsuba, Japan, mid-Edo periodIn the form of a mokko gata decorated in ito sukashi, iroe taka zogan and tokin with a haloed rakan carrying in his hands a representation of the Buddha sitting on the lotus. At the top of the tsuba is inlaid a three-star constellation in sentoku. The bottom of the tsuba is dotted with a few Dai 大 (large) characters stamped in iron. On the reverse side is inlaid a copper oni head and a gilt cartouche bearing a signature: Ishiguro Koretsune - 石黒是常 (signature not guaranteed). 9.1 x 8.5 cmWith its kiri presentation box.
