Léon DEGRELLE (1906-1994) Belgian collaborationist writer and politician, founder of the Rex movement. L.A.S., October 25, 1961, to Lucien Rebatet; 4 pages small in-4, envelope. Long and astonishing letter from exile to another famous collaborator, after reading a chronicle "speaking with affection of what I was before my death. Holy Leon, buried in the shit of defeat, on May 8, 1945! Because it is true, I died then. I have the effect, often, of being a false corpse [...] In fact, a guy like me only lives when he acts. On May 8, 1945, everything tumbled down - me, in particular, head first - into the most gigantic pit of history. I was covered with loads of mud and filth. [...] But, undead as I am, or living-dead as you are, it is more or less the same thing. Yes, you can still look out the window. But what do you see? Dead landscapes. And humans with dead calf heads. I would almost rather be in the cemetery, in my hole, and not see anything at all. Perhaps, one day, I will do like my predecessor, the Yid, named Lazarus? [...] I had seen, until I was twenty-five, only clean parents, clean boyfriends, clean women (at twenty-six, my old Lucien, the "beautiful Leon" married a virgin, yes, a virgin!). [...] But yes, on October 25, 1936 (just a quarter of a century ago!) I could have won, my old Lucien! Everything came from the idea that I had of men". He attacks "many forked goods in the manner of de Gaulle, and the merchants of round pies in the manner of Spaak"... Etc. We join 3 paperbacks with autographs : Léon Degrelle, La Campagne de Russie 1941-1945 (Le Cheval ailé, 1949, mouill.), with long sending to Henri Charbonneau, evoking his uncle Joseph Darnand, "hero to the Bayard", plus tract attached); Robert Brasillach, Notre avant-guerre (Plon, 1941): "to Marcel Giraultces images of a prehistoric time (especially for him), in very sympathetic memory of Robert Brasillach May 21, 1941"; Pierre Drieu la Rochelle, Fond de cantine (2nd ed, Nouvelle Revue Française, 1920), "A Madame Thion de la Chaume Hommage de Pierre Drieu la Rochelle". Plus the brochure Des Führers Kampf um den Weltfrieden (Munich, 1936), with a forged mailing from Hitler.
