Beautiful carved and gilded wood console table of trapezoidal form, with openwork decoration of rocaille, foliage, garlands of flowers and palmettes, the curved uprights decorated with chimera heads and three-headed chimeras (one head missing), resting on a platform with four scrolled feet and grotesque mask; top of Arrabida breccia marble; (accidents). Circa 1720-1730 H : 82.5 cm, W : 128 cm, D : 65 cm A console with many stylistic similarities, notably the three-headed chimera or dragon figures, was part of the sale at Sotheby's in Paris on March 23, 2006, lot 28, then at Artcurial on December 12, 2012, lot 37. These two consoles were most probably made by the same workshop around 1720-1730 from the drawings of an ornamentalist of the time, among whom we should mention Jean-Bernard-Honoré Turreau, known as Toro (1672-1731), as well as Nicolas Pineau (1684-1754), whose collection Nouveaux desseins de Pieds de tables, de Vases et de Consoles, de sculpture en bois, inventés par le sieur Pineau sculpteur, was published in the same years. One finds there in particular the mask of chimera which decorates the center of the spacer.
