It seems that the technique of rubbing interested Papazoff from 1925. However, we cannot say with precision if these first rubbings precede or not those of Max Ernst. Papazoff's rubbings, resulting from various manipulations of materials (sand, earth, combed pastes), offer a variety of textures that are not only the result of a formal accident, of the surprise of the form, but that translate a will of formal organization of the elements. Papazoff's first rubbings date from 1925: the landscape of the first series of "Éclaireurs" is treated in rubbing. A group of drawings dating from the same year marks the first steps.
