Jean-François Raffaëlli (1850-1924 )The Garden of the Old Girl. About 1894. Printed on Gillot paper to produce a gillotage. [238 x 322]. Blue and red chalk print on fine textured vellum, reworked with graphite, signed in pencil. Traces of glue in the corners on the reverse. The subject is in reverse of the eponymous etching of 1894 (etching, drypoint and soft varnish, Delteil 18) and of the same format: one can think that, following various transfers, the image was transferred to gillot paper in order to be clichéd for publication in the press or in a magazine. There are two holes in the head and foot. This subject may have also been used to establish the color plates in the print run.
