Dark green chagrin, gilt plate made of scrolls and palmettes and gilt fillet on the boards, spine decorated with nerfs, gilt border inside, gilt edges (period binding). Edition illustrated with a portrait of the author on chine appliqué engraved on copper by Choubrard after Jules David, two frontispieces also on copper enhanced with colors and gold, and more than 300 woodcut vignettes after Jules David. A second edition copy, from 1839, enriched with 24 hors-texts, that is to say 12 engraved false titles after the compositions of Louis Schaal and 12 engraved plates after the compositions of François Grenier, Janet-Lange, Tony Johannot, Eugène Laville, Victor Adam and Louis Marckl. A very nice copy in full contemporary chagrin. Corners slightly dulled. Scattered foxing. Provenance : Bourlon de Rouvre, with ex-libris.
