With his fists clenched and striking the ground with his small feet, the child is represented as a capricious youngster whose grimacing face lets us hear his angry cry. It is the emblematic work of Gustave Vigeland. Trained in woodcarving with Brynjulf Bergslien in Oslo, he then entered an art school. Thanks to a government grant, he made numerous trips to Copenhagen, Berlin, Florence and Paris, where he frequented the studio of Auguste Rodin. Conceived in 1928, Sinnataggen is part of an important group of 212 sculptures in bronze and granite erected in 1940 in Vigeland Park in Oslo.
