PROVENCE. Manuscript, Memoires touchant le Parlement de Provence, [ca. 1675]; 442 pages in-fol. in one volume, bound in old parchment (worn, top cover reattached).

Interesting manuscript on the Parliament of Provence.
In a beautiful and very legible handwriting, with a margin intended for the inscription of numerous headings, it comprises eight chapters, retracing the history of "the administration of Justice under the ancient Counts of Provence and up to the Institution, of the Parliament, in the year 1501", then by chronological periods, until chap. VIII " De l'établissement du semestre en 1647 jusques a présent ", the manuscript presenting then important corrections to the original text, and continued by different hands, until page 315, that is the year 1675. After a few blank pages, begins (p. 327) a statement "Des memoires de Mr de La Roque", then various entries; the leaves concerning the years 1649-1653 have been largely crossed out (p. 361-385). The end of the collection gives an "Estat au vray contenant le nombre et noms de Messieurs les presidents, coners, Gens du Roy", etc., with their salaries, in the year 1671 (pp. 397-440). On the last 3 pages, in cursive handwriting, the "Names of all the first Presidants or heads of the Parliament of Provence".
Provenance: on the first page, ink stamp with the initials j.f.P.; inscription on the back cover: "purchased by Louis Blancard at the Bory sale on 24 September 1875".
