Georges SCHEHADÉ (1905-1989). Autograph manuscript; 1 page in-4.

Response to a question asking him how he was led to write a deeply asocial theater. "Here again the merit (if there is any merit) goes to poetry. Being a poet, even a "respectable and respected" one, always involves a great deal of risk, adventure, and why not? [...] of generosity". But when the poet leaves his garden of poetry to approach "the streets of the life he finds himself immediately in the clutches with all kinds of vulgar and established truths", and he has to fight as Don Quixote or Jesus chasing the merchants: "The revolution in the Theater can be made only by the poetry. For poetry is, above all, play, knowledge, and courage!" In the margin, Gabriel Pomerand has noted in pencil: "manuscript of Georges Schehadé".
Attached are 2 autograph notes (one signed) of the Greek poet Nanos Valaoritis, concerning an interview by Gabriel Pomerand in 1963 (2 p. in-8).
