ROMAN. Jules CHERBONNIER. Autograph manuscript signed, As-tu vu ça, dis ?, 1925; 310 and 342 pages small in-4.

Complete manuscript, in two versions, of this novel published under the pseudonym of Jack Shepheard (Paris, Tassel, 1925). The first draft manuscript, abundantly crossed out and corrected, with additions, is presented in 8 notebooks formed of double sheets. The finalized manuscript also presents numerous corrections, notably in red ink; it is signed and dated at the end 11 December 1924-5 January 1925. In his preface, or "Note de Jules Coaler" (of which we have the draft in the first manuscript, but only the last lines in the second), the author indicates: "One should not consider these memoirs as a novel, but as a study. I attach much more importance to the descriptions contained in this book concerning either the circus customs or the life aboard the boats or the equatorial customs - than to the painting of the life of the two artists, a real life story added to so many others". Quite a program!
