Alphonse de LAMARTINE. Autograph poem signed, To Alix de Vignet, my niece..., Saint-Point October 24, 1836; 1 page in-4 (fold mark with small split).

Beautiful poem from Recueillements poétiques (1839).
It is titled here: À Alix de Vignet, ma nièce - qui me demandeait des vers pour elle seule, but will be titled in the 1839 collection, of which it is the second piece: À une jeune fille qui pleurait sa mère. In 1849, Lamartine will make it the xxviith of the Nouvelles Méditations poétiques, in a corrected version and under the title: À Alix de V..., jeune fille qui avait perdu sa mère.
The manuscript, dated "St Point 24 octobre 1836", bears at the bottom a sending: "à Mme de Girardin". It has four quatrains and presents some variants with the published text.
" Que notre œil, l'un dans l'autre pose
Sad, quand nous nous regardons !
 Do we miss one thing
That we ask ourselves from the heart? [...]
But to see again all that we cry
Poor child, we look at the sky!"
A facsimile of the poem The Birds is attached.
