Guillaume APOLLINAIRE. Autograph poem, " O mon très cher amour "... ; 1 page in-8.

Working manuscript of this very beautiful sonnet, collected in Il y a.
Here untitled, this sonnet was published in 1912 by Apollinaire under two different titles: in February 1912 under the title Per te præsentit aruspex (title preserved in Il y a) in the first issue of his review Les Soirées de Paris, with Le Pont Mirabeau; and the same year in the third issue of the review Arthénice, under the title Immortalité. Another manuscript, probably sent to Annie Playden on the back of a partially erased letter, on letterhead of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich (which would date it from the 1901-1902 stay in Germany), is entitled L'Art et l'Amour (former collection of composer Robert Caby, who set it to music); it was illustrated by Pierre Alechinsky (Fata Morgana, 2016). The sonnet was collected in 1925 in Apollinaire's first posthumous collection, Il y a (Œuvres poétiques, Pléiade, p. 340).
This manuscript, unlike the text of Il y a, does not include any punctuation mark. It presents moreover two interesting variants: the beginning of the 5th line: "Mon amour tu seras" has been crossed out and replaced by "Tu seras mon aimée"; and in the 8th line, "l'amour" is written in overload on "l'ardeur".

"O my dearest love you my work and that I love
For ever I lit the fire of your look
I love you as I love a beautiful work of art
A noble statue a magic poem [...]

Thus beautiful work of art our loves were
And will be the ornament of the sky and the earth
O you my creature and my divinity "
