François TRUFFAUT (1932-1984). Autograph manuscript, Que vivent les Cinés-Club !, [1981]; 2 pages and a half in-4, with erasures and corrections.

Defense of the cine-clubs, at the time when they find in television a very strong audience: "the movement of the cine-clubs crosses its biggest difficulties in front of the indifference of the public authorities". Created in France in the post-war period, it "was a victim of its own success, since it gave birth to a form of popular and selective exhibition that is the extension of its vocation, the Art cinemas. Should we say "mission accomplished? Certainly not, because the birth of young national cinemas, everywhere in the world in the continuation of the spirit of the French new wave, has increased a hundredfold the number of interesting films that pass through the net of the current exploitation. And film clubs are developing in third world countries; this is why an evening is organized on March 30 at the Cinémathèque Française, on the film club movement in 1981 "its difficulties, but also its will to survive and to realize its great hopes.
An autograph note on Louis Feuillade is attached: "The work of Louis Feuillade has, in the history of French cinema, an importance equal to that of Alexandre Dumas in the literature of the 19th century"...
