Claude MONET (1840-1926). L.A.S., Giverny by Vernon Eure July 1, 1910, [to Mrs. widow Victor Vignon]; 3 pages and a half in-8 in purple ink. Relief to the widow of his comrade the painter Victor Vignon (1847-1909; he participated in the last Impressionist exhibitions with his landscapes of the Oise painted alongside Pissarro; a collection was organized to help his widow). He apologizes for his delay in answering her: "I have been so confused all these years that I forgot everything, even the most urgent things. [...] I have just sent to the Société générale de Meulan the 500f promised for Mme Vignon. Having said that, I am happy to announce that the condition of our dear patient [his wife Alice] continues to improve. The strength is returning every day a little less quickly than she would like, but it is more than progress, it is a real resurrection. You can imagine how happy we all are. I am sending these lines to you in Paris, not knowing where you can be with this nasty whooping cough which must pass quickly with the change of air". He wishes him a prompt recovery...
