*GALAND (Jules). In Cochinchina. Original woodblocks in black by Jules Galand, with comments by J. Castier. Saigon : the author, the main booksellers of the city, 1924 [1925]. - Square folio, paperback in Chinese-style cardboard decorated with a woodcut on the first cover. Very rare first edition, printed at less than 100 copies, illustrated with 19 original woodcuts, including one on the cover, one pasted on the title and 17 full-page, by the painter and engraver Jules GALAND (1869 or 70-1924). Although dated 1924 on the title, the work was printed in Saigon on March 31, 1925 and thus appeared after the artist's death. The collection begins with a 2-page text by Jules Castier dated 5-6 October 1924. The 17 full-page engravings are glued under matting and are accompanied by a poem opposite. They bear the red stamp of the artist. The edition mentioned in the justification is 60 copies. Considering the few copies of this book that we have found, it is possible that this number is exaggerated. Only one copy is listed in the WorldCat. This one is not numbered. Cover is soiled and very damaged, tears and chips on the spine ends and on the edges of the boards, some wetness. The interior is well preserved despite traces of wetness on the upper margin of the leaves.
