GIDE (André). The Poems of André Walter (posthumous work). Paris : Librairie de l'art indépendant, 1892. - In-8, paperback. First edition published without author's name, printed in 190 copies. The 20 poems that make up this collection were written during the summer of 1891 and published the following year in the journal "La Conque". In 1930, Gide wrote in his preface to the edition of the "Cahiers et Poésies d'André Walter": "I reread with pleasure some of these poems that I am giving back with the Cahiers. I wrote almost all of them in less than eight days, shortly after the publication of the Notebooks, which explains their title and this attribution to an imaginary André Walter, even though he had already died in me. Even the André Walter of the Cahiers does not seem to me to have been very capable of writing them, I had already passed him by. One of 180 copies on stained vellum (no. 25), well preserved despite tears on the spine.
