Johann Jacob SCHUDT, Jüdischer Merkwürdigkeiten. Frankfurt and Leipzig, 1714-1718. Fort in-4. First 3 parts out of 4. Binding in used condition. Despite the author's prejudices, this book remains an important source of information on Jewish life in Germany. It describes especially the life of the Jews of Frankfurt and their customs. Complete with the engraving of the Jew and the sow, which is missing on most copies (Juden-Sau). The image of the Jew sucking the sow's nipples or eating her excrement is the archetypal anti-Semitic representation. (Book uniformly browned).
