This composition seems to have been popular in Iran in the 19th century. An early example, perhaps dating from the late 18th century, was in the Pozzi Collection: see B.W. Robinson, A Collector's Orient: Persian Miniatures, Textiles, Ceramics, and Goldsmiths Collected by Jean Pozzi, Geneva and Lyon, 1992. Another, dated to the 19th century like our drawing, was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 22 April 2016, lot 346.
