Provenance: - Christie's, Paris, 7 March 2007, lot 81- Pierre Jourdan-Barry Collection, ParisThis inkwell is to be compared with a group of bidri dishes from the Mittal Collection in Hyderabad, of small size and also inlaid with silver and brass (Jagdish Mittal, Bidri Ware and Damascene work in Jagdish & Kamla Mittal Museum of India Art, Hyderabad, 2011, cat. 11, 13, 14 and 16) . These objects are dated to the second half of the 17th and early 18th centuries. A bottle base dated to the 17th century and formerly in the Krishna Riboud collection, Paris, is decorated with a lattice of palmettes similar to our inkwell (Mark Zebrowski, Gold, Silver & Bronze, London, 1997, cat. 283).
