"Written at the request of Mstislav Rostropovitch, this duet for cello and piano exploits the sound resources of both instruments equally in a single-stream dialogue, in monothematic form, unfolding a series of episodes in contrast with one another." (Christine Prost).
The manuscript is carefully written in Indian ink on 16-line tracing paper. The title page is calligraphied, with the monogram MO and the date 1970. A sheet of "Notes pour l'exécution" also gives the indication of the creation and the duration: about 16 minutes.
