Lucien GUÉRINEL (born 1930). Autograph musical manuscript, Petits Visages for 4 cellos, 1993; 11 sheets 37.5 x 27 cm. Quartet for cellos, premiered in 1994 in Toulon by the cello quartet La Follia. On the printed title page, Guérinel explains: "Petit visage" was the technical meaning of "facet" in the 12th century. We are dealing here with facets of the same idea, or, even less, of a group of notes. The metre is constantly in 4/4, which reduces it to a working mark, without implying classical accentuations. The G.P.'s remain what they are, large organ points, and not spaces of "rest" between movements; they are, in short, brief stops on the image. The work is in six movements. The manuscript is carefully written in Indian ink on tracing paper, generally with four systems of four staves per page. It is dated at the end "Marseille, 24/27 January 93". It has been used for the clichage with collettes printed on the first page.
