Henri CLIQUET-PLEYEL (1864-1963). Autograph musical manuscript signed, Cliquettes pour petites mains, 1947; title and 16 pages 32 x 24 cm in a booklet. Suite of seven childish pieces for piano, composed in 1947, and published by Jobert in 1961. The Cliquettes " never lapse into silliness. Their themes are original, their harmonies are not the same as the bland cadences that we think should be confined to young ears. These seven pieces are sewn with a simple thread, that of a dream" (Guy Sacre). The manuscript is written in black ink on 12-line paper. It is signed at the end and dated 1947. Many fingerings are indicated. One bar is crossed out and corrected to two bars. Each piece is preceded by a poetic epigraph. 1. The beginning of the dream, "When one is afraid of the wolves, of the cold, of the storm, / Dear little pillow, how good it is to sleep!" (Marceline Desbordes-Valmore), Moderato. 2. Party at the fairies', "Through the waves, through the flames, I go through all the world's places, Faster than the moon's shining sphere; And I serve the fairies' queen" A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare), Spanish Waltz T°. 3. The supper, "Then the tables were covered with meat: whole sheep cooked in sweet wine, legs of camels and buffaloes, fried cicadas and candied dormice", Salammbô (G. Flaubert), Allegretto moderato. 4. Le réveil, "Now you can't know, everything is already pink, yellow, green. You have to get up early, nurse, if you want to see a world without colours", Antigone (Jean Anouilh), Andantino poco tranquillo. A copy of the edition is enclosed (Jean Jobert editions, 1961).
