Alain BANCQUART (born 1934). Autograph music manuscript signed, Possibles, [1968]; 20 sheets 37 x 27.5 cm. Piece for violin, clarinet, and piano, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, premiered by Michelle Boussinot, Guy Dangain, and Fabienne Fournier at the Société Nationale de Musique in 1968. After the title, the notice gives a diagram for the position of the performers, and sets out five possibilities for sequencing the nine sections: Alternations (5 ff), Polyphony (2 ff), Resonances (4 ff), Variants (2 ff), and (each on one sheet) Points, Durations, Plage, Miroir and Traits. In a programme note, the composer indicated that this was his only serial work, containing no micro-intervals, combining "rigorous writing and mobile form", and bringing together the timbre of three antinomian instruments. The manuscript is carefully written in Indian ink on 20-line tracing paper.
