First edition of this collection of Maupassant's short stories, illustrated on the frontispiece with a portrait of the author engraved in etching by Just, one of the few that the writer had authorized for publication. A UNIQUE COPY, ENRICHED WITH 91 PEN-AND-INK DRAWINGS, MOST OF THEM WATERCOLOURED, BY THE ILLUSTRATOR AND CARICATURIST HENRI MAIGROT (1857-1933). Maigrot signed under different pseudonyms, including Henriot and Pif. Only the first and the last drawings are signed, the first one "Henriot (Pif) 1885", the last one only with the initial H. A very nice copy.
