Complete set of the four titles of the collection published by Hetzel and Aubert under the title "Petit tableau de Paris".

- First edition of Paris dans l'eau by the writer Eugène Briffault, a picturesque work on Paris and its river, divided into 10 chapters: Paris on the water. - Swimming. - The swimming master. - The swimming schools. - A day at the swimming school. - Women's baths. - Varieties. - The full water. - Anecdotes. - Police of the river baths.
The illustration consists of a frontispiece, reproduced on the cover, and 120 vignettes in the text, all wood-engraved after compositions by BERTALL.
Some minor foxing. Spine of the cover lined and missing. Well completed with the last leaf proposing the publications of J. Hetzel.

- First edition of Paris au bal. Composed by Louis Huart, it is an interesting description of Parisian carnivals and balls, constituting the first version of the Bal Musard which will be published in 1850.

60 woodcut vignettes are illustrated in the text after compositions by CHAM

.

The title mistakenly indicates 50 vignettes contrary to the title of the cover which gives the correct number of engravings.
Some light foxing. Back cover lined.

- First separate edition of Honoré de Balzac's Paris marié, composed of texts published in Le Diable à Paris. It is illustrated, in the first edition, with 20 out-of-text compositions and 40 vignettes in the text after GAVARNI, woodcut by Lavielle, Bara and Gérard.
A few minor light foxing. Without the cover. A photocopy of the latter has been pasted on the third white cover.

- First edition of Paris à table by the writer Eugène Briffault who offers us a true sociological study on gastronomy through the history of the food habits of the French and more particularly those of the Parisians. The book is divided into 11 chapters: Le Dîner à Paris. - History of the diner up to the present day. - The current era. - Varieties of dining. - People who do not dine. - Lunch. - Luncheon. - The Supper. - Clubs, Circles, Tables d'Hote, Bourgeois boarding houses, Nursing homes. - The Restaurants of Paris. - Eccentricities.

The first edition is illustrated with a frontispiece showing the author in a cook's outfit holding a saucepan, repeated on the cover, and more than 100 vignettes in the text, all wood-engraved after drawings by BERTALL.
Some foxing. Back cover restored and lined.

Beautiful set in uniform bindings but each one in a different colour. The copy of Paris marié was bound by Belz Niédrée and served as a model for the other three copies which are in modern bindings.
