Red half-maroquin with corners, gilt filets, spine ribbed and decorated, gilt head, untrimmed (R. Raparlier). First edition of this work devoted to the conception and construction of the Garnier opera house, published the same year it opened. Charles Nuitter was Charles Garnier's librarian-archivist. The illustration includes a photograph of Charles Garnier by Maunoury as a frontispiece, 59 woodcuts, 20 of which are full-page, and four out-of-text plans, one of which is on a double page. The portrait is pasted on China paper. One of 150 numbered copies on China paper (n° 70), the only ones to have the portrait of Charles Garnier. This one is enriched with two L.A.S. from Charles Nuitter. The first one, of one page in-8, concerns a file relating to M. de La Ferté. The second, of 3 pages in-8, with the heading "Archives de l'Opéra", dated 12 March 1873, deals with documents on the death of Mlle Théodore. The recipient of these two letters is not identified, perhaps Ludovic Halévy, to whom the copy belonged. A beautiful copy, very well preserved. Provenance: Ludovic Halévy, with ex-libris engraved by Stern.
