MORIN (Louis).
Carnavals Parisiens.
Paris : Montgredien et Cie, Librairie illustrée, [1898]. - In-12, 183 x 120 : (4 ff. first blank), X pp., (1 f.), 186 pp., (1 f.), illustrated cover. Red morocco, boards decorated with a frame of three gilt fillets and a gilt marotte at the corners, as well as a gilt diamond-shaped composition in the centre, spine with ornamented nerves, red morocco framed inside, decorated with a double gilt fillet and a gilt marotte at the corners, mauve moiré silk lining and endpapers, double marbled paper endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (Joly fils).

First edition of this pleasant work intended to put some fantasy in the ambient boredom of the time: "This boredom which takes us, because of the sadness, the ugliness and the hypocrisy which surround us, must be shared by many people: let them claim with us a little colour and a little fantasy" (page 181).

Morin thus makes the apology of the Parisian and Montmartre parties in particular, at the time of the big cabarets. The book is divided into 8 parts: Bals d'artistes - Les peintres de la Butte - Bals publics. The Opera - The Moulin Rouge - The students - The street - The Fat Ox - The wash houses and the advertisement.

The interest of the book also comes from the large number of black and coloured illustrations in the text composed with humour by the author.

One of 125 copies on japan, this one being more precisely one of the hundred numbered from 26 to 125, numbered and signed by the author at the justification (n° 59).

A very fine copy bound by Joly fils, complete with the cover preserved in one piece and folded at the head.

First edition printed at 151 copies, illustrated with 5 etchings by Louis MORIN, two in the text, one out of the text and two full-page.
One of the 150 copies on japon, this one, among the 125 including a state of the etchings (n° 118), was specially printed for M. Hérissey, justified and initialled by the publisher. It is probably the printer Charles Hérissey (1849-1909).

A very well preserved copy.
