Excellent edition published and annotated by Antoine-François Jolly (1672-1753), also containing a Mémoire sur la vie et les ouvrages de Molière by the playwright Jean-Louis Ignace de La Serre (1662-1751) . "Boucher's masterpiece as an illustration: it is one of the most beautiful books of the first part of the eighteenth century" (Cohen). This edition is indeed illustrated with a portrait of Molière engraved by Lépicié after Coypel, more than 300 vignettes, lettering and culs-de-lampe by Boucher, Blondel and Oppenord, several of them repeated, and 33 plates engraved by Laurent Cars after Boucher. A second edition copy with notably the error corrected on page 360 of the sixth volume where the word "countess" is correctly spelled. A good copy in modern imitation binding. Several browned leaves and scattered freckles, as almost always.
