BUFFET (Bernard). Les Oiseaux. Paris] : Art et Style 54, [1960]. - Album in-4 oblong, 239 x 315 : (23 ff. first blank). Publisher's hardback, illustrated with a color reproduction of a work by the artist on the first cover. Very nice album including a photographic portrait in black of Bernard BUFFET and numerous reproductions in black and in colours of paintings made on the theme of the bird by the artist. As an introduction, Buffet has composed a text on his conception of painting, ending in these words: "The Hate I am surrounded by is for me the most wonderful gift I have been given - I have to spare nothing and nobody - few people can say as much". This 8-page text is in the artist's handwriting. One of the 125 first copies with an original etching numbered and signed by Bernard Buffet. It is rare today to find these first copies complete with this etching which was often removed. Rubbing of use without gravity on the edges of the first plate, one corner slightly dulled.
