[DEGENERATED ART - NAZISM] - Entartete Kunst. Munich, 1937. - Booklet in-8, 210 x 145 : 30 pp, (1 f.), illustrated cover. Stapled. Catalogue of the exhibition of degenerate art held by the Nazis in Munich from July 19, 1937, which was part of Hitler's propaganda efforts to try to put an end to what he called "cultural subversion" by identifying and ridiculing, as he said at the opening of the event, "the cliques of chatterboxes, dilettantes and art swindlers who support each other . This is how he referred to artists such as the Cubists and the Dadaists, whom he accused of being the representatives of art officially recognized by the "Bolshevik" states. This catalogue "emphasizes the desire of its organizers to 'unmask the common root of political anarchy and cultural anarchy,' to 'unmask the degeneration of art, artistic Bolshevism in the fullest sense of the word,' and, of course, to warn the German public against 'the general Judeo-Bolshevik uproar. For the Nazis, and Hitler in particular, "cultural Bolshevism" can only be cultural Judeo-Bolshevism. This vast operation of "unmasking" and "cleansing" is itself part of the great program of radical "dejudaization" undertaken by the Nazis" (Pierre-André Taguieff, La Judéophobie des Modernes, 2008, page 226). The catalogue is illustrated with numerous black reproductions. Wear and small tears on the spine. Some handwritten annotations inside. Attached: - DRESLER (Adolf). Deutsche Kunst und entartete "Kunst". Kunstwerk und Zerrbild als Spiegel der Weltanschauung. Munich : Deutscher Volksverlag, 1938. - In-8, 212 x 150 : 80 pp. Publisher's printed white cloth boards, in illustrated dust jacket. First edition of this virulent critique of so-called "degenerate" art made by the Nazi propaganda aimed at fighting modern and especially foreign art by comparing it to official German art. The book contains numerous black and white reproductions of both arts, including works by Grosz, Dix, Kirchner, Schwitters, Klee and Beckmann. Tears to the dust jacket. Some foxing to the cardboard.
