[BINDING]. Le Petit paroissien complet, contenant l'office des dimanches et fêtes, suivant le nouveau bréviaire et missel de Paris et de Rome. Augmented with the Matins of Christmas, the Processions of the Blessed Sacrament, St. Mark's and Rogues. Sacrement, S. Marc & Rogations, Blessing & Mass of Marriage, & Ash Wednesday, with the Seven Psalms without references. Paris: de Hansy, 1779. - In-8, 165 x 96 : (6 ff.), xvj, 750 pp., (1 f.). Red morocco, boards decorated in the centre with the figure JBG crowned, surrounded by a gilt decoration with bird's iron in the corners, spine decorated with nerves, inner gilt roulette, lining and endpapers of light blue tabis, gilt edges, bookmarks composed of 6 silk ribbons of 3 different colours, sewn on a pad embroidered with silver thread, slipcase in olive morocco decorated with cold fillets in the frame (Jean-Pierre Jubert ?). A very fine copy of this parish book, finely bound in contemporary morocco decorated with a large lace in the taste of Derôme, most likely from the workshop of Jean-Pierre Jubert. The latter was received as master in 1771 and succeeded Boismare. He was deputy of his corporation in 1789 and sold his house to his brother-in-law Janet, around 1792. Specialized in almanac bindings, he also designed many artistic bindings like the one presented here, decorated with a very beautiful lace with small irons, in particular the one with the bird in the corners. This copy includes the monogram JBG crowned in the centre of the boards, which we have not identified. It is complete with its bookmarks composed of 6 ribbons of green, white and pink silk, sewn on a pad embroidered with silver threads, and the slipcase in olive green morocco. Upper corner of the first board restored, showing a dark mark. Some wear and tear and traces of moisture to the slipcase. Provenance: Roger Huet, with ex-libris.
