Five ethnic ornamental ornaments, Tibet and Ladakh, 20th century

A headdress called "trapper's hat", a turban headdress, a perak type headdress, a five-sided tiara, a large breastplate necklace. The ensemble is adorned with turquoise, coral, glass, carnelian, reliquary pendants, mother-of-pearl and cowries.

Lots 271 - 275 :

For obvious reasons of simplicity of our descriptions we have used the terms: headdress, tiara, plastron and pectoral, as for example for the tiara of lot 271 given sometimes as an oracle woman's headdress, a nobleman's or king's tiara, or as a llama's tiara worn during funeral ceremonies. But also for the toque of lot 275 which can be given as a perak headdress, Ladakh, Zanskar, woman's headdress, Nubra valley, Changthang highland headdress, or Hunza headdress, Pakistan. And even if many museums, such as the Castre Museum in Cannes (now the Museum of World Explorations), the Natural History Museum of Lyon, or the Mingei International Museum of San Diego in California, present similar headdresses, following the controversies of these last years on this subject, nothing allows us, today, to affirm that these pieces were worn by members of ethnic groups of Ladakh or other regions of the Himalayan foothills. We will therefore consider that these pieces are presented only as decorative objects of the 20th century.
