ARP (Jean) - DUCHAMP (Marcel). Euphorisms. S.l., n.d. (between 1961 and 1966). - In-folio, in sheets, boxed. Precious and certainly unique original autograph model, in Marcel Duchamp's hand, of a book intended for the publisher Louis Broder and which never saw the light of day. The title of this book was to be Euphorismes and was to contain illustrations by Jean ARP (1886-1966). The layout consists of a false title, a title and 4 pages with short texts written in pencil by Marcel Duchamp, including a beginning of justification on the last page. It also includes several blank sheets and especially 12 original aquatints in colour by Jean Arp, including one glued on the cardboard and one on the cover, part of his series of dolls. All the proofs are on wove paper, except the one on the cardboard and the second one, identical, which are printed on laid paper. They are unsigned. The tenth and the last one have been cut and pasted, the tenth one on the edge of the bowl and the last one on the outlines of the doll. The latter was glued on Canson paper and then on rag paper. The justification written by Duchamp at the end states: "partly original // This edition of texts // dating from 1915 to 1961 // was taken from à x exemplaires". If this publication had seen the light of day, it would have been the first and only collaboration between Marcel Duchamp and Jean Arp for a book. Started in the 1960s, it certainly had to stop because of the artist's death, which occurred in 1966. missing an edge of the case, wear and tear on the hinges .
