IRIBE (Paul) - COCTEAU (Jean).
Le Mot.
Paris, November 28, 1914-July 1, 1915. - 20 fascicules in-folio, 427 x 282. Bradel demi-toile burgundy with corners, smooth spine, speckled head, untrimmed, case (time binding).

Complete collection of this beautiful satirical and patriotic, anti-German magazine, directed by Paul IRIBE in collaboration with Jean COCTEAU, that the two friends, reformed for health reasons, founded to participate in the war effort.

It comprises 20 issues published from 28 November 1914 to 1 July 1915. Each issue, comprising 2 to 6 pages, is illustrated with black and colour compositions by Paul Iribe, Jean Cocteau under the pseudonym Jim, Sem (n° 3), Raoul Dufy (n° 10 and 13), Léon Bakst (n° 18), Albert Gleizes or André Lhote (n° 20).

"The ephemeral existence of the "Mot" easily demonstrates that the courageous newspaper was unable to meet its ambitious challenge: to interest both a vast public and the soldiers themselves, to whom several hundred free subscriptions were sent. It is to be deplored, but hardly surprising: "Le Mot", even if it speaks "just", is not a trench newspaper! It is addressed to an elite..." (Raymond Bachollet, in: Le Collectionneur français, N° 197 of January 1983, page 5).

A copy of which the first issue is in a second edition and in a deluxe edition on japan. Number 8 is accompanied by the censored cover representing a drawing entitled The Good Cross. Various articles on Le Mot from issues 195, 196, 197 and 200 of the magazine Le Collectionneur français have been attached separately.

Perfectly preserved bound copy. Freckles are noted in number 16. It is very rare to find bound copies of this magazine.
