SAVIGNOL (Marius).
The Question of the Day. Ferrer.
Paris, s.d. [1909]. - Fascicule in-4, 314 x 245: 16 pp. stapled.

This issue 1 of The Question of the Day is the only one published. Entirely composed of cartoons by Marius Savignol, it is a virulent pamphlet on the Ferrer affair.

The latter took place in Barcelona in the summer of 1909, where the Spanish monarchy staged a bloodless insurrection. The pedagogue and anarchist Francisco Ferrer was arrested on this occasion and then shot on October 13, triggering a worldwide wave of protest and causing major riots in Paris, among other things.

The politician and cartoonist Marius Savignol (1866-1938) took part in many issues of L'Assiette au beurre, creating the character of César Tripet, which he reprised in this single issue of La Question du jour.

This publication is extremely rare, apparently missing from French public libraries. This rarity stems from the fact that a large part of the print run was burned at the Spanish border at the time.

A well-preserved copy despite a few tears with no missing parts, notably one on the first page.
