The Butter Plate. The Push-Push. New board games.

Very rare box of two board games published around 1907. It contains a double-sided board, two cones, a box with 4 dice, 41 purple, red and orange tokens and 2 rectangular tokens, purple for one and yellow for the other, as well as two wooden point counters.

These elements make it possible to play the game of Pouss-Pouss and the game of L'Assiette au beurre, the rules of which are glued inside the box.

It is a box edited by the engineer and designer Jean Anatole Jost (1860-1926) who bought in 1885 the business of Gustave Chevallier, a mechanic specialized in the manufacture of games and toys of "amusing physics". His workshops were located at 120 rue Oberkampf in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

We enclose the booklet published in 1907 by Jost, proposing the rules of the game of the Pouss-Pouss and L'Assiette au beurre, followed by the catalogue of available games. It is illustrated on the cover with a beautiful composition in chromolithography, showing various games and a man and his two children playing billiards.

This game is extremely rare, it is in fact the only copy we could find, it is unknown to two toy museums interviewed (Colmar and Poissy museum) and the National Game Centre of Boulogne-Billancourt.

Old adhesive repairs to the corners of the box, moth holes in the felt of the tray.

An earthenware plate from the company Hippolyte Boulenger et Cie in Choisy-le-Roi is attached, constituting the eighth in the series of "Galéjades marseillaises" representing a man addressing a crowd of men, with this legend: "Citizens, if you don't want your deputies to monopolize the butter plate, only vote for candidates who are amateurs of oil cooking! ».
