ROUBILE. The Museum of Sires. Contemporary Gueulerie. Sheet of political cartoons. Paris : Arnaud et Cie Parisian Bookshop, [1900]. - 13 broadsides bound in a modern burgundy half calf volume, with slipcase. Extremely rare complete set of the 13 caricature leaves, each with a large color caricature of Auguste Roubille (1872-1955) on the front, representing as many different rulers, namely : The gracious Queen (Queen Victoria). - Sir Paul Kruger. - Der Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. - Nicholas II our little father the czar. - Abdul Hamid II the Red Sultan. - M. Emile Loubet President of the French Republic. - Humberto il Moustachu king of Italy. - The Prince of Wales. - Leopold II king of the Belgians. - Shah of Persia Mozaffer Ed-Dine. - H.M. Tze-Chi Dowager Empress of China. - Oscar II King of Sweden. - Franz Joseph II Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. This undated ephemeral publication was edited by Antonin Reschall. Raymond Bachollet, in his article devoted to this magazine published in Le Collectionneur français in December 1979 and January 1980, states that it appeared in 1900, created for the Universal Exhibition, at the closure of which it would have ceased to appear. The illustrations composed by Roubille are remarkable. "Roubille's style, far removed here from the vigorous realism of Léandre, Veber or Cadel, highlights, with great economy of means, thanks to the precision of its line, the originality of its layout, the choice of colours and the small significant detail, the essential character traits revealed by its characters, the supreme function they occupy and the political situation of the country they represent" (Raymond Bachollet, Le Collectionneur français, No. 163, page 16). The complete collection of these "leaves" is extremely rare, and we have not found any that have recently gone on sale. Virtually every public library is missing, with only one listed on WorldCat at Duke University Library in the United
