[CAILLAVET (Léontine and Gaston Arman de)].

Set of 3 books from the library of Gaston and Léontine Arman de Caillavet, each one offered and signed by the famous American bibliophile James Carleton Young (1856-1918). Nicknamed "The King of Books" in France, and a member of the most important bibliophile societies of the time, he had built up a precious collection of thousands of books, most of them dedicated by their authors to his name. He also had several books printed especially for him, which he donated to his friends, such as the three books published in New York by The Roycroft Editions created by Elbert Green Hubbard (1856-1915). The Roycroft offered its readers a small number of publications that were remarkably well printed.

Includes :

- BACHELLER (Irving). The Story of a Passion. New York: Roycroft, 1901. - In-8, soft suede with brown overlay, title and author gilt on first cover, smooth spine, brown moiré silk lining, head gilt, untrimmed (publisher's binding).

Young mistakenly wrote G. H. instead of G. A. for Gaston Arman, a mistake he also made in the following book. This is because the name Arman usually begins with an H in English.

- EMERSON (Ralph Waldo). The Essay on friendship. New York: Roycroft, 1899. - In-8, soft suede with brown overlay, gilt title and author on first cover, smooth spine, yellow moiré silk lining, gilt head, untrimmed (publisher's binding).
