In particular, the author has completely changed the order followed in the 1819 edition and has "tried to give a complete treatise on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the thoracic organs, and to tighten all the facts related to it in the shortest possible space". In his new preface, the author takes the opportunity to respond to his detractors, particularly Mr. Broussais. The illustration consists of 4 double-page plates at the end of the first volume.
