GUÉRINEAU (Joseph-Désiré).

Differential diagnosis with the help of the real and simulated amaurosis ophthalmoscope in front of the review boards.

Paris: P. Asselin son-in-law and Labé's successor, 1860. - In-8, brown half-brown, spine with decorated nerves, jagged edges (contemporary binding).

Rare original edition of this treatise by Joseph-Désiré Guérineau, surgeon at the Poitiers General Hospital, which complements the work by the same author entitled Du diagnostic des maladies des yeux à l'aide de l'ophthalmoscope published the same year. The latter was a relatively new device at the time, invented in 1850 by Hermann von Helmholtz (1821-1894).

Beginning with a chapter on the use of the ophthalmoscope, the treatise continues with a description of the various studies and observations made with this device. It also includes 21 colour lithographed plates depicting various lesions of the eye in detail.

This edition dated 1860 is very rare, the copies usually found are dated 1861.

White marks on the plates. A white guard sheet, on which was a consignment, has been torn off.
