Guillaume APOLLINAIRE. Autograph poem, "O my dearest love"... ; 1 page in-8. Working manuscript of this very beautiful sonnet, collected in Il y a. Untitled here, this sonnet was published in 1912 by Apollinaire under two different titles: in February 1912 under the title Per te præsentit aruspex (title preserved in Il y a) in the first issue of his review Les Soirées de Paris, with Le Pont Mirabeau; and the same year in the n° 3 of the review Arthénice, under the title Immortalité. Another manuscript, probably sent to Annie Playden on the back of a partly erased letter on the letterhead of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich (which would date it from his stay in Germany in 1901-1902), is entitled L'Art et l'Amour (former collection of the composer Robert Caby, who set it to music); it was illustrated by Pierre Alechinsky (Fata Morgana, 2016). The sonnet was collected in 1925 in Apollinaire's first posthumous collection, Il y a (Œuvres poétiques, Pléiade, p. 340). This manuscript, unlike the text of Il y a, does not include any punctuation marks. Moreover, it presents two interesting variants: the beginning of the 5th verse: "Mon amour tu seras" has been crossed out and replaced by "Tu seras mon aimé"; and in the 8th verse, "l'amour" is over written with "l'ardeur". " O my dearest love, you are my work and whom I love, I will never light the fire of your gaze. I love you as I love a beautiful work of art A noble statue a magical poem [... ] Thus beautiful work of art our loves have been and will be the ornament of heaven and earthO you are my creature and my di
