192-Rare reprint, appeared the same year as the original, printed in Amsterdam by Auguste
 Brancart.

According to Galitzin, this is the "only correct edition" of Gautier's famous licentious letter to the painter, demi-mondaine and salonnière Apollonie Sabatier (1822-1890), called "La présidente" by his friends. Théophile Gautier maintained a friendly and loving relationship with her; this pornographic letter dated Rome, October 19, 1850, is testimony to this. The author describes the itinerary he followed in the company of Cormenin from an inn on the Simplon to

 Rome.

Edition of 100 numbered copies on japanese paper, bearing the number 5 written in graphite, in in-8 format and not in-12 as indicated by

 Dutel.

Beautiful complete copy of the cover plates and spine, as well as the erotic frontispiece by Félicien Rops of the first edition, printed on paper

 from China.

Provenance: Gérard Nordmann, with ex-libris (cat. II, 14-15 December 2006, no. 217).
