Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1805) L’Armoire. 1778. Eau-forte. 555 x 422. Baudicour 2 ; I.F.F. 22 ; Regency to Empire 76. « [A] hallmark of these early impressions is the presence of faint lines of shading on the folds of the cape hiding the young man’s left arm and on the door frame immediately above the woman’s head. These fine hatchings appear to be either burnished etching or additions with a burin. » (V. Carlson, Regency to Empire, French Printmaking 1715-1814, The Baltimore Museum of Art and the Minneapolis Institute of arts, 1984, p. 227).
